Starting in 2013, I have served as Lab Manager and Executive Producer in the Games for Entertainment and Learning (GEL) Lab at Michigan State University. Our mission is to design innovative prototypes, techniques, and complete games for entertainment and learning and to advance state of the art knowledge about social and individual effects of digital games. The lab focuses on externally funded research and development work and employs graduate and undergraduate students.

Game Design & Development Minor

 

ACADEMIC SPECIALIST
AND INSTRUCTOR

Instructor of six different courses in the Game Design and Development Minor at Michigan State University. Developed new curriculum with a focus in game design, game mechanics and pre-production. Contributed to idea generation, instruction and course mapping for a minor consistently ranked as a top 10 program by the Princeton Review. Mentor of multiple student groups, helping to facilitate their transition from students to industry professionals.

MEDIA SUMMER CAMPS

CURRICULUM DIRECTOR
AND INSTRUCTOR

Created game design and development focused curriculum for middle and high school students. Features content adapted from the college curriculum led in a blend of college-lecture style instruction and one on one mentorship. Responsibilities include staffing of instructors, job training, course instruction and content development.

Tahir’s Playbook challenges players to track their eating, drinking and exercise habits, and engage in a series of mini-games across the week to level up their fitness and prepare for the “Big Game”. Along the way, players earn achievements while being coached and mentored by Tahir Whitehead, a professional football player.

VESTA Virtual Vineyards explores innovative approaches to providing viticulture and enology education to professionals through the use of virtual reality and web technologies. Travel through a virtual vineyard, interact with equipment, and learn in a safe, mistake-free environment.

If only you weren’t driving such a junker… You’ll need to manage your finances as you hit the racing circuit, gain sponsorships, sell old racers, and pick out parts and upgrades to build your very own “dream racer”. So start your engines and burn some rubber. Dream Racer is go-kart racing at its finest!

TRAIN LIKE AN ASTRONAUT

Train Like An Astronaut is a game developed through a grant from NASA that is designed to determine whether recently documented motivation gains in task groups (dyads in particular) can be harnessed to improve motivation in interactive exercise games using virtual, software-generated (SG) partners.

ISOTOPOLIS

DESIGNER


“Isotopolis” is an exploratory game about the process of discovering rare isotopes. In the game, players accelerate particles and assemble new isotopes in the effort to complete the table of nuclides in a process inspired by what goes on a the nanoscopic level within a cyclotron.
